The reason behind this horrific act is still unclear, but some clues have emerged from family history and social media posts.
According to Darrell Howard, the boys’ older brother, whose father was identical to Jayden’s, the family had contacted child protective services several times over the years to express their concerns about Lucas.
He said Lucas had a history of drug addiction and mental health problems and wanted to do more to protect his brothers.
“We wanted them. We will welcome them with open arms. We loved him very much,” Howard told WLKY.
Lucas also posted several photos of himself and his children on Facebook, showing them smiling and celebrating Halloween together, days before the tragedy.
He also wrote a cryptic message on November 8, saying: “I’m sorry for everything I’ve done wrong in my life.”
Some friends commented on her post and expressed their support and love for her and her children. It is unclear whether Lucas had suicidal intentions or whether he already wanted to kill his children.
